Crayon Scratch Art

Create your own scratch art using materials you already have in your classroom cupboards!

A DIY crayon scratch art project

Materials needed:

  • White paper
  • Crayons
  • Paintbrushes
  • Black tempera paint
  • Paperclips, pencil tips or coins
  1. Have students cover their entire white paper with a crayon design. Tell them to press hard.
  2. Cover the picture completely with the tempera paint and let dry overnight.
  3. Lay the dry papers under a heavy box or stack of books until they lay flat.
  4. Students use a pointed object to scratch a design into their paper.
